Damp walls in basements and living areas were normal for thousands of years and simply had to be accepted in the past.
Until the early 1930s, buildings were constructed almost exclusively without horizontal barriers against rising damp. Vertical external waterproofing was also rare until this time.

Despite all the progress made, many mistakes are still made today when building new houses, which lead to moisture problems. It doesn't matter whether an old house, perhaps more than 100 years old, is to be renovated or whether the construction error in a new building is to be rectified. If you want to do it yourself, you first need to understand how the problems you want to rectify come about.

This manual has been written to explain to Isofin users the physical and construction-related relationships between moisture problems in basements and living spaces, and to prevent errors in recognizing the cause of damage and dealing with moisture damage.
